Artist Chris Burden’s permanent installation at the “new” Los Angeles County Museum of Art, “Urban Light,” comprised of 202 antique street lights, lit up a a grey ocean of sky today. It was the first full test of the lights, which are anchored in the courtyard between the “old” LACMA buildings and the new — the Broad Contemporary Art Museum (BCAM).
According to the installation’s general contractor, Anna Justice, the lights had a brief but illuminating debut of a few hours today, and will be extinguished until the sequence of opening events for LACMA’s “Transformation.”
